Vale Smokey Dawson

Smokey Dawson, who headed for the last roundup today at the age of 94, was, apparently, the oldest recording artist in the world at the time of his death.

More than 50 years ago, I was a member of the Smokey Dawson Club, and gained points for cleaning my teeth, obeying my parents, and other important things. I won a plastic sheriff's star for my pains. Phillip Adams tells a story, told to him by Smokey, of the time that the pioneer Aussie C&W singer had a kangaroo that escaped in Manhattan for a week.

End of the track for country legend Smoky Dawson
