1066 Norman Conquest: Battle of Hastings – In England on Senlac Hill, seven miles from Hastings, the Norman invasion forces of William the Conqueror defeated the English army and killed King Harold II of England.

Halley's Comet was in the sky for two months while the English and Normans planned for the invasion (it first appeared on April 24 that year). The Normans were victorious and from that time on the comet was said to have been a sign that favoured William the Conqueror ...
