Jump the shark jumped the shark

I was sounding off today about how The Simpsons has jumped the shark, then on this page someone with the $10 name of Harvard Irving expressed a view I can't fault: jumping the shark has jumped the shark. It's a good point.

I'm hugely advantaged by the fact that, not having TV and only now getting Simpsons episodes on pirated DVD, I can selectively catch up on 15 years' worth of pre-sharkjump entertainment unavailable in first-time mode to those who grew up on the show.
