The Secret is, these people are dangerous

Don't try this at home, kids.

These people are dangerous idiots.

Baz le Tuff has given me a copy of con-woman JZ Knight/Ramtha's execrable (I've seen parts of it before) What the Bleep Do We Know?, which he knows as well as I do is a pile of crap, but he always did enjoy a good laugh.

I'm only going to watch it when I know my infuriation levels won't get unbearably high. I think le Tuff lasted about five agonized minutes.

However, I have watched some of the New Age televangelist, middle-class claptrap called The Secret (also at Google Video), despite the fury factor.

Everywhere I go, someone wants to know if I've seen 'The Secret'. Well, I won't watch it right through, but I've seen more than enough.

They can con the relatively poor, but not the abjectly poor
The people who need to watch it right through are starving people in Ethiopia and Somalia, and people living in abject poverty in most of the world's countries. They really need some well-fed, sleek, American snake-oil salesmen and saleswomen to tell them that they "manifest their own circumstances" by "asking" and "receiving". That their babies will not die of thirst, Western-made bombs, hunger or disease and that they can "ask The Universe" to supply a "catalog" of "cars to buy" and "houses to shop for". Perhaps they can go shopping in the Sahara Desert or among the shell holes of Afghanistan and the hell holes of West New Guinea.

This video is one of the most insidious and dangerous lies circulating on the Net, because it is so slick -- almost persuasive, if you haven't thought things through or been to their unctuous Super Store. And also because it contains some acceptable grains. Beware: "A lie which is half a truth was ever the greatest of lies."

The fact that they try to claim Plato, Shakespeare and the saintly Emerson on their side is close to unforgiveable. Have these Secret people ever read them? The obviously insincere acting by a guy called Dr Joe Vitale is almost worse.

Ask your friends to look at this video in the light of the realities of the world's poor majority -- and the environmental, political and economic circumstances that shape their exploited lives. The sooner this popular video is widely exposed, condemned and discarded, the better.

It seems that 80 per cent of our American cousins believe in God and The Universe; roughly the same percentage that were persuaded by another supernatural-quoting huckster that Iraqi men, women and children had Weapons of Mass Destruction and therefore should be blasted and burned with overwhelming weaponry -- and possibly about the same as who believe in the Tooth Fairy.

Gods and "The Universe" can't solve personal problems or the parlous state of the world. That strategy has been tried for thousands of years, and failed. Problem-solving people with rational minds can, but the irrational ones are holding back our future.

Only people know just how to change the world. Share that secret.
