Aquarris Festival, May 12, 1973

1973 Australia: Commencement of the Aquarius Festival, a counterculture arts and music festival organized by the Australian Union of Students. and held in Nimbin, New South Wales. The ten-day event was co-directed by Johnny Allen and my good mate Graeme Dunstan (owner/driver of the Peace Bus) and attended by thousands of students and hippies. At the end of the festival, much of the town and many local farms bought by festival goers, and Nimbin soon became one of the most prominent countercultural and communal towns in Australia.
