1963 John F Kennedy assassination: In Dallas, Texas, US President John F Kennedy was assassinated, Texas Governor John B Connally was seriously wounded, and US Vice-President Lyndon B Johnson was sworn-in as the 36th President of the United States.
Within two hours of the killing, a suspect, Lee Harvey Oswald, was arrested. Throughout the time Oswald was in custody, he stuck to his story that he had not been involved in the assassination. On November 24, while being transported by the Dallas police from the city to the county jail, Oswald was shot dead by Jack Ruby (1911-67), a Dallas businessman with Mafia and other underworld connections, who later was videotaped saying, "Everything pertaining to what's happening has never come to the surface. The world will never know the true facts, of what occurred, my motives. The people that had so much to gain and had such an ulterior motive for putting me in the position I'm in, will never let the true facts come above board to the world" ...
