Death of a young bushranger

1879 Augustus Wernicke (15; pictured), youngest member of the gang of Australian bushranger Captain Moonlite, was fatally shot at Wantabadgery Station, in the Wagga Wagga district of New South Wales.

Wernicke is said to have cried when shot, "Oh, God, I am shot and I'm only fifteen". The teen bushranger's compatriot, James Nesbitt, was also shot and died two hours later ...
