William Morris was not just your usual bloke

1834 Birth date of William Morris (d. October 3, 1896), English philosopher, artist, social reformer, poet, medievalist, utopian novelist (News from Nowhere). With other pre-Raphaelite contemporaries he helped reform Victorian tastes in colour and design, celebrating 'beauty for beauty's sake'.

He was one of the principal founders of the British Arts and Crafts Movement and is still highly regarded as a designer of wallpaper and patterned fabrics, as well as a writer of poetry and fiction, and an early founder of the socialist movement in Britain. He was a great supporter of the Paris Commune of 1871 ...
