The sinking of the Lusitania

Today according to Australian Eastern Standard Time when this item was posted
1915 World War I: The German submarine, Unterseeboot 20, sank the RMS Lusitania, a British passenger liner, with the loss of 1,198 lives. The incident played a significant role in the decision of the USA to enter into World War I. Germany honoured the grim event by striking a commemorative medal (pictured).
