Australia slides down global reading list

Ask any Australian schoolteacher and they'll tell you that kids know far less today than they did 40 years ago "because class sizes are too large". It has nothing to do with the fact that half of what the poor kids do at school is watch videos.

Of course, when I was at primary school, we had 47 kids to a class, and now the teachers scream when class sizes reach 20 or 25. Give me a break!

Here comes Idiocracy.

"Fewer Australian students are at the highest levels of reading literacy than in the past, says Geoff Masters, one of the co-ordinators of a study of 400,000 teenagers from 57 developed countries, released last night."
