In my backyard on this glorious Spring day, there are thousands of bees buzzing around at ground level. I estimate about 7 per square metre, on the grass, the garden beds and the pebble path.
Although I was a gardener for many years, I've never seen a similar thing in my life. Can anyone explain it to me?

Hello Pip - I don't know why the bees are active at your place other than possibly the onset of springtime. We in the USA have a shortage of bees, with a recent report attributing it to an Israeli virus.
I enjoy your blogmanac, please keep up the good work!
