The first anarchist
1756 William Godwin (d. April 7, 1836), born at Wisbech, Isle of Ely, England.
His best known work is An Enquiry Concerning the Principles of Political Justice. He is known as the first modern anarchist writer, a friend of William Blake and Thomas Paine, husband of Mary Wollstonecraft (author of A Vindication of the Rights of Women) and father of Mary Shelley (author of Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus).
