One more reason to abolish murder by the state

With yesterday being World Day Against the Death Penalty, what better time than to note one of the principle reasons, if not the principle reason, to abolish capital punishment?

Jailed man officially cleared of jeweller's murder -- Andrew Mallard spent almost 12 years in jail over the brutal murder of a jeweller before his conviction was quashed. He simply did not commit the crime.

Andrew Mallard has suffered twelve years of judicial injustice. What if this innocent man had been executed twelve years ago?

Although Australia does not have the death penalty, it needs to emulate the USA and get its own Innocence Project, because such miscarriages of justice as Andrew Mallard's frequently come to light -- how many never emerge is anybody's guess.
