Climate change: US economist's grim warning
"Global warming could cost the world's economies up to 20 per cent of their gross domestic product (GDP) if urgent action is not taken to stop floods, storms and natural catastrophes.
"That stark warning was given to Tony Blair and his cabinet yesterday by Sir Nicholas Stern, a former World Bank economist, and is said to have left cabinet ministers chastened by the magnitude of the threat posed by climate change."

Very much like your blog. I stumbled here, as I usually do when finding a new blog.
Particularily think your US comments are spot-on. It sucks here. If it is a lesson on anything it is the virulence of hate-stoking in changing the political climate.
The rise of the right wing hate machine, decline of schools and intellect, religious hate groups with actual power...jeez. Now we have to worry about insidious code inserted into voting machines owned by right wing companies.
I fret that the right wing corporate takeover of America, was just the first in a global series.
Particularily liked your comments about the veil. I hadn't thought of the nun comparison. It was good.
I understand the religious right is making inroads in Australia. That is a shame. What a corruption.
Best to you and your blog.
See Wiki here.
Stern is British (Sir Nicholas). God knows what the Independent sub editor thought (s)he was at!
I happened to know because a member of my family knows the man. Plus, I saw his press conference. Or should I say Blair and Brown's conference, at which they kindly allowed Sir Nick to speak for a wee while. :)
