Born on Museum Street in Croton, Italy, Damo of Croton was the daughter of Greek philosopher and mathematician, Pythagoras of Samos (who moved to Croton, a Greek town in Calabria, southern Italy, on the Gulf of Taranto, about 530 BCE), and his wife Theano.

Pythagoras bequeathed her all the secrets of his philosophy, giving her the unlimited care of his compositions. When the Pythagorean School at Croton closed, Damo sought refuge in Athens, where, with the help of Thymaridas and Philolaus, she published her father's treatises on geometry ...
