Beware the basa

I bought cheap fish and chips today -- the fish was called 'dory'. While waiting for it to be cooked, I saw in the glass counter some raw fish labelled 'Dory (basa, Vietnam)'.

Beware this horrible fish upon which apparently some marketers have sneakily bestowed the name of a very tasty species. It is very cheap, but tastes like four-day-old underpants taken from a sawmiller in Summer.

Baz le Tuff says even his cats won't touch it.

On the other hand, Southeast Asia's vennamei, or vannamei, prawns are tasty and also very cheap, about half the price of Australian ones. There are, however, some problems.
