Australians under Nippon

Highly recommended
Of the 22,000 Australians who were killed by Japanese in WWII, 8,000 of them died as prisoners of war. Starvation, slavery and torture were all part of life for up to four long years of hell for many young Aussies.

Prisoners of War: Australians under Nippon is a gripping radio series about Australians in POW camps under the Japanese. All the episodes are now online for download or listen-on-demand. I learned a lot from this multi-part documentary, and was very moved by the interviews with former prisoners, both men and women, who were brutalised almost beyond belief. Sometimes funny, often inspirational, it shows human beings at their worst, but also at their best.
