Day of the living dead
The DLP is a Roman Catholic-based party that has not held a seat in the Victorian Parliament since ... wait for it ... 1955. While it has some progressive views on industrial relations, it is arch-conservative on many social issues. I never thought I'd see the day that they made headlines again, as they are firmly fixed in the public imagination as a 1950s and 1960s party.

O dear, such manifest bias. "A sliver of the primary vote." Sure, but our system embraces preferential voting. These candidates must have ended with a significant vote.
I wonder if we'd had the complaints if some Greenies, or other trendies had won seats with a 'sliver of the primary vote'?
And what's wrong with being 'arch-conservative' on many social issues? Aren't we in favour of conservation, Pip? Especially of values that promote respect for life? Or is your intolerance showing?
Dear sir or madam,
May I tell you what I'm in favour of? I'm in favour of those people who, when they take the liberty of addressing me by my first name, especially when they criticise something I've written and which perhaps they have not fully comprehended, do not hide behind a veil of anonymity. I'm in favour of guts, and civility.
I might add, I would not be proud to be tolerant of everything in this world. I think that would be folly of the most egregious kind.
Mr P. Wilson
Dear Mr P Wilson
Have obtained a blogger ID so that I don't have to 'hide behind the veil of anonymity.'
Glad to know your preferences, but for myself, I favour not ending sentences with prepositions. But seriously, it was good to read that you are in favour of intolerance. The real question is, "Of what ought we to be intolerant?" And what ought we to regard tolerantly? I am not a Catholic and neither would I vote for the DLP redivivus, if I were in Victoria. But I don't think it's helpful simply to lampoon them as "the living dead" because their party started 40-50 years ago. Novelty is no guarantee of truth.
Anyway, all the best to you, Mr Wilson.
Billy the arch-conservative
