Firefighters' sexual harassment training while city dies
Read it, but you won't believe it:"'They've got people here who are search-and-rescue certified, paramedics, haz-mat certified,' said a Texas firefighter. 'We're sitting in here having a sexual-harassment class while there are still [victims] in Louisiana who haven't been contacted yet.'
"The firefighter, who has encouraged his superiors back home not to send any more volunteers for now, declined to give his name because FEMA has warned them not to talk to reporters ...
"But as specific orders began arriving to the firefighters in Atlanta, a team of 50 Monday morning quickly was ushered onto a flight headed for Louisiana. The crew's first assignment: to stand beside President Bush as he tours devastated areas." [Emphasis mine]

Maybe if the UN forces posted to Africa to help starving people that had also been attacked by rival religious groups, had had some sexual harrasment training they would have hesitated before raping the women and children they were sent to help and protect.
I can guarantee that any true burreaucrat worth his salt would want everybody to be trained in concerns over sexual harrasment just on the belief that the only thing stopping said harrasment is adequate training.
I'm certain that FEMA needed supplemental personnel on the ground and cannot afford to have thousands of people on the payroll, all the time, to take part in a disaster of a scope that is only likely to occur every 50 years. They felt trained fireman would be better prepared for the kind of issues and emergencies likely to present themselves while doing Community Contact activities.
If the firemen cant understand that they may be politically motivated to try turning this action into a black eye for the administration as is the press reporting it.
