At 8:15 EDT, the United States B-29 Super Fortress called the Enola Gay dropped a ten-foot long atomic bomb tastelessly code-named Little Boy on Hiroshima, Japan, killing an estimated 140,000 men, women and children -- innocent civilians. A second A-bomb was dropped in Nagaski three days later.

Hiroshima Peace Festival, or Hiroshima Day
Today is a day for reflection on the anniversary of the dropping of the first atomic bomb on this date in 1945. In Japan, and around the world, Hiroshima Day is observed with prayers for world. In Hiroshima, one of the main remembrance services is held at Peace Memorial Park.
